What is an AED / Defibrillator?

AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. An AED is a portable device that can be used by trained laypersons to deliver an electric shock to the heart of someone experiencing Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). AEDs are portable, easy to use, and the key to increasing the survival rate of SCA victims. Having an AED within minutes of a victim of SCA could be the difference between life and death.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is suitable and recommended for all First Aiders, Health and Safety Appointed Persons and Lifeguards who would benefit from the knowledge and experience of using lifesaving equipment.

What does the course include?

  • Basic life support
  • Anatomy of the heart
  • Circulatory system - (normal and abnormal)
  • The Chain of Survival
  • The role of an AED in basic life support
  • What is an AED and how does it work
  • Control measures and procedures
  • Using the defibrillator
  • Safety and maintenance
  • Certification valid for 2 years

How will the participants be assessed?

The assessment will be question and answer based with safe practice. Upon completion, all successful participants will be issued with an AED Defibrillation Certification.

Where will participants attend the course?

The course is designed to be carried out at the client’s premises, or external venue by prior arrangement.

What will participants achieve from the course?

This course will enable successful participants to perform CPR and use the AED in a safe and controlled manner.
